We Always Want What We Don’t Have

We got it in our heads that
possessions and wealth
will bring us happiness.
Or perhaps we believe, to have a
little more
would make our life complete.
So we work and
save, and finally buy what we think we need.
But as soon as we do, we find
there’s always one more thing.
Chorus
We always want what we don’t have.
We’re searching for joy that won’t
last.
You try to be happy, but you find
you still want more.
Jesus told a young man,
“Go sell all you have and come
follow me.”
But he went away sad because he
couldn’t give them up.
Jesus knew the man’s faith was in
the material world,
and to have true joy you’ve got to
put your faith in God.
Chorus
We always want what we don’t have.
We’re searching for joy that won’t
last.
You try to be happy, but you find
you still want more.
Satan entices by filling your
flesh with wants.
It looks so inviting, you start to
believe that it’s “what you need”.
Your mind gets so cloudy you can’t
see what’s pulling you down.
Turn your life to Jesus.
When you put your trust in what
you have disappointment awaits.
There’s nothing in this world you
can take when you die.
If you’re wise, you’ll start
placing your trust in Jesus Christ.
Lay up your treasures in heaven
where they won’t be lost.
Jesus can give what you don’t
have:
The only joy that can last.
He’ll change your perspective, and
you’ll find He gives you more.
Chorus
We always want what we don’t have.
We’re searching for joy that won’t
last.
You try to be happy, but you find
you still want more.
